IS EUROPE HEADING TO AUSTRALIA FOR IT'S ENERGY NEEDS?

An interesting development, my home state of Western Australia will be hosting 1000 officials from the region including a large contingent from Germany.

The President of Germany is leading the way.

Could Europe be hoping for major LNG contracts to feed it's energy needs so Russia does not stand over Europe?

Western Australia has some of the largest gas fields in the world.

GERMANY'S PRESIDENT HEADING TO W.A IN MAJOR TRADE PUSH
Germany's head of state will make a historic visit to Perth later this year as part of a major trade push that will bring some of the Europe's largest companies to WA.
German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier will lead a delegation of about 1000 officials and businesspeople to Perth in November for a regional conference, to be led by Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull and his wife Lucy.
The conference, which has been driven largely by Finance Minister Mathias Cormann, will see discussions on security and defence industry, mining, education and infrastructure.
Other figures heading to Perth include the head of BHP Billiton Andrew Mackenzie, the Singaporean Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan, as well as much of the Turnbull Government cabinet.
Senator Cormann and Mrs Turnbull – a former head of the Australia-Germany chamber of commerce – have been working to build trade links between the two countries as the strong German economy continues to dominate Europe.
One of Germany’s largest companies, ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems, was considered the frontrunner to win a record $50 billion contract to build a future fleet of submarines for Australia after a Japanese bid fell out of favour.
The contract was eventually awarded to a French company, despite a major diplomatic lobbying effort out of Berlin.
The conference, to be held in Perth between November 3 to 5, is expected to give a major boost to local tourism and jobs as the State looks to showcase the best of local produce to Europe and the region.
President Steinmeier is a former German opposition leader and foreign minister. In more recent times he has been a harsh critic of US President Donald Trump, and once called him a “hate preacher”.
He has advocated Germany taking more of a global leadership role as the US under President Trump has pursued its “America first” agenda.
Senator Cormann, who came to Australia more than 20 years ago, grew up in a German-speaking region of Belgium.
